OFFSITE DATA BACKUP - Tips for certain applications

Some database and proprietary software programs require an extra step to ensure a complete and 100% accurate backup. These applications usually have their own internal backup procedures that take your data and back it up into a proprietary backup file or folder/directory. Most often, they are "open file" databases, and are commonly financial programs and customer contact management programs.

We recommend that you use these program-specific backup methods, and then select these backup methods, and then select that backup file or folder/directory for your Multi-Link offsite backup. Below we have listed the most common, "off-the-shelf" programs which require that you run their custom backup program. Please keep in mind that there are many programs that you may have had specifically designed for your company, or are specific to a particular industry.

The instructions from the vendors tended to be confusing, so we simplified them for you. Should you wish to view the vendor's instructions, we have included a link to the vendor's web site when it was available.

Because these programs often place their backups in a new location on your computer, it is very important to remember that once you've performed the software program's custom backup (when necessary), you make sure that this file or folder/directory is selected for your Multi-Link offsite backup.

Once you have performed the procedure once, it is usually very quick and easy to do on an ongoing basis, to ensure full and accurate backups are taking place. Many of the programs offer automated backups, so you can set it and forget it - knowing your data is saved locally and offsite as well.
